Loma Linda University School of Pharmacy

Joseph Miles Azurin is a third-year student pharmacist from Loma Linda University School of Pharmacy. As a graduate of the University of the Philippines Manila with a B.S. in Pharmacy, he is passionate about acute care pharmacy and international healthcare with the ultimate goal of becoming a critical care pharmacist.

As an intern pharmacist and pharmacy technician, Joseph has garnered diverse experience since 2018 spanning various fields including hospital, community, industrial, and research settings. Currently working at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, his past involvements at notable institutions like CVS Pharmacy, River’s Edge Pharmacy, Loma Linda University, Desert Regional Medical Center, Philippine General Hospital, and United Laboratories Corporation, stand as a testament to his practical knowledge and understanding of patient healthcare.

In leadership, his experience in the Philippines saw him serve in positions at local, national, and even international levels in multiple pharmacy-related organizations, such as UPPhA (University of the Philippines Pharmaceutical Association), FJCPPhA (Federation of Junior Chapters of the Philippines Pharmaceutical Association), and IPSF.

Currently, as the APhA-ASP local chapter president, his enthusiasm for professional networking and international affairs remains robust. A proactive organizer of numerous university and community events, Joseph is also instrumental in local and California-wide projects such as being the project lead for the 3rd Annual Southern California Pharmacy Mixer 2024. He has been recognized at professional associations and conferences, including CSHP, CPhA, and ISHP, where he serves as Loma Linda University’s representative and liaison. Internationally, he remains connected with other countries through the IPSF, delivering speeches on international affairs, and has served as a delegate for the United States at the 68th IPSF World Congress in Bali, Indonesia.

Community service holds a special place in Joseph’s academic journey. Serving as the Clinic Coordinator at the Riverside Free Clinic (RFC) since April 2022, he is deeply involved in supporting the underserved population of the Inland Empire. His leadership roles in international medical mission trips to Mexico and the Philippines further underscore his commitment to community welfare. An exemplary student from the Rho Chi Honor Society, he devotes time to tutoring peers and underclassmen, alongside volunteering at various immunization clinics and outreach programs. In recognition of his exemplary level of service, he received the Excellence in Public Health Pharmacy Award from the United States Public Health Service.

In his free time, Joseph indulges in his passion for music through playing the guitar and explores his creative side with graphic design.
