Project IMPACT: HPV Immunizations

In this project, community pharmacies are identifying an opportunity to conduct a comprehensive vaccination history review for a patient (e.g., for a patient receiving an influenza vaccination and/or a COVID-19 vaccination) and engage the patient in a discussion about his/her eligibility for the HPV vaccine, as well as other vaccines. The pharmacist is assessing the patient’s information in their state’s bidirectional Immunization Information System (IIS) and discussing the patient’s vaccine needs, presenting him/her with an opportunity to receive the HPV vaccine(s) at the pharmacy. This process of care provides the pharmacist with an opportunity to utilize data from the IIS to educate the patient about his/her vaccine needs and administer appropriate vaccine(s) as authorized by the patient. The pharmacist will then document the administered vaccine(s) into the APhA Foundation’s documentation platform, allowing researchers to gauge the impact that this model has on increasing HPV vaccinations!
