The APhA Foundation Honors ‘Women of
Influence’ in the Pharmacy Profession
Women in Pharmacy Exhibit and Conference Room
dedicated
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The American
Pharmacists Association (APhA) Foundation dedicated the new Women in Pharmacy Exhibit
and Conference Room on Sunday, September 23, 2012. This tribute honors
women who have positively influenced the progression of pharmacy
practice and provides an opportunity for members of the pharmacy
community to celebrate the achievements of remarkable women throughout
the history of pharmacy.
The Women in Pharmacy Exhibit and Conference Room
highlights many firsts for women in U.S. pharmacy, including innovating
pharmacy practice as entrepreneurs, advocating for health care, serving
in federal pharmacy and proving leadership in national pharmacy
organizations. Dating back to the 1700s, photographs of 17 women hang on
the exhibit wall. The distinguished women featured on the
exhibit’s history tree are a sampling of the many women who have
contributed to pharmacy as a vital health care profession.

“Cherry blossoms are a central theme in the design
of the Women in Pharmacy Exhibit and Conference Room,” stated
Mindy Smith, APhA Foundation Executive Director. “This steadfast
tree, holding a delicate flower is a symbol of hope, strength, humanity
and new beginnings. The cherry blossom represents hope for equal rights
and strength to persevere in hard times. It is also a symbol for
compassion, kindness, charity and sympathy, each of which are
characteristics of the women honored on the history wall.”
The Women in Pharmacy Exhibit and Conference Room is
located in the APhA and APhA Foundation headquarters building in
Washington, D.C. The tribute overlooks the majestic surroundings of our
Nation’s Capital and the National Mall.
